Outgoing council members honored; residents offer thanks during final December meeting

The Dec. 16 meeting included an extended public-comment and remarks period in which residents, the mayor and council members thanked three departing council members for their service and reflected on recent city achievements.
Public commenters called in and spoke briefly. Heath Sato (online) and Theresa thanked departing members for their service. Multiple stakeholders who had participated in airport work praised the collaborative process that produced the new leasing policy.
Mayor Nadolski thanked the outgoing council members for their service and emphasized the administration’s intent to remain transparent and supportive of incoming members. Janine Eller Smith, outgoing executive director in the council office after 16 years, reflected on her tenure and praised staff and council collaboration. Several council members delivered personal farewell remarks, noting accomplishments including land purchases beneath Union Station, expansion of Pioneer Rodeo support, improvements to infrastructure and the Christmas Village, and steps to strengthen public safety.
Speakers repeatedly urged the new council to lean on staff expertise and to maintain collaborative relationships with the administration. The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn.
