The Orange Unified School District Board of Education approved the district's purchase of Pearson OLSAT licenses to standardize GATE identification, the superintendent reported Dec. 15.
Superintendent Rachel Menares said the district will use Pearson OLSAT for universal screening of all third-grade scholars and for teacher- and parent-referral testing in grades 2, 4 and 5. Staff described the change as a move to combine universal screening with referrals to expand access, provide norm-referenced data, and align identification practices with the district's multi-tiered support system.
Trustees voted unanimously to approve the purchase; trustees said the measure aims to reduce barriers to advanced-learning opportunities and provide more equitable GATE identification.
