District staff announced coaching hires (including Jason Lyons, Logan Haslam and Hannah Springfield), recent team accomplishments (swim meet win in Owensboro, rifle placements) and introduced five student ambassadors who described academic pathways and college plans.
During the meeting Mr. Grace delivered a personnel and athletics update, listing several recent hires and describing team performance. He said the district added coaching staff across sports: Jason Lyons returned to assist basketball, John Reynolds (added last year) supports baseball and basketball and special education, Logan Haslam will help the pitching staff, Aaron Houser will assist with player logistics and development, Shannon Thompson will help with swim, and Hannah Springfield will join the softball coaching staff.
Grace highlighted recent competitive results: a swim meet in Owensboro in which he said the team placed first, and a rifle team competition in which the advanced shooter placed second and newer shooters placed third. He said the district will host upcoming regional wrestling tournaments and is exploring sound system and scoreboard upgrades for athletic facilities.
Earlier in the meeting five student ambassadors introduced themselves and their plans: Gabby Melvin (health science pathway, plans to attend OCTC for diagnostic medical sonography), Lisonbee Day (health science and Y Club, plans to attend USI), Ava Lucas (band involvement, drum major, plans for Western Kentucky University to major in music education), Abby Davis (Y Club and National Honor Society, plans for University of Evansville to major in biology) and Jackson Robinson (health clinic pathway, plans to attend Salem for exercise science). The board and superintendent thanked the students and recognized coaches and volunteers for their contributions.
