Superintendent Dr. Lawson presented the change order and described the principal line items: sprinkler piping added under newly installed ductwork (about $1,300) and new breakers to feed welding booths (approximately $2,000), along with other upgrades and a credit for not installing a paging system that produced the overall net credit. "So we're coming out on the right end of this," Dr. Lawson said while recommending board approval.
A project representative identified in the meeting as Mr. Miller also briefed the board on renovation progress at two sites. He said crews have completed demolition in roughly six classrooms at South Middle and plan more classroom work, with ceiling grids and upgraded fire protection to follow. At East Heights, trusses were largely complete and roof decking had started; roofing shingles were expected to go on around the turn of the year.
Board members moved and seconded approval of the change order; the chair called for voice votes and the motion carried with all members responding "Aye." The change‑order approval was recorded as approved by the board.
The board also discussed related facility upgrades to athletic and auditorium systems in other agenda items and directed staff to continue coordinating vendor quotes for sound systems and scoreboards.
