Committee approves Pennsylvania Elk Hunt Day resolution as chair raises transparency concerns about Game Commission

The House Game and Fisheries Committee reported House Resolution 356, designating Pennsylvania Elk Hunt Day, after adopting an amendment to change the date to Dec. 27, 2025.
During debate, Chair Maloney used her allotted comments to criticize the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s practice around elk tag drawings and public information. Maloney said the commission “does not officially publish lottery statistics,” that the drawing itself is not livestreamed while winners are announced at the Elk Country Visitor Center, and that the actual drawing occurs “several days prior to the announcement.” She urged investigation and greater transparency so the public can have confidence the lottery is conducted above board.
“Preferred points, my friends, means nothing,” Chair Maloney said, arguing that long‑term entrants have little assurance under current practices. Committee members otherwise expressed support for celebrating the state’s elk population and for the Elk Country Visitor Center; Chair Kulick noted the center draws more than 500,000 visitors a year.
The committee adopted amendment A02130 (which changed the date) and reported the resolution as amended by voice vote with no negative votes recorded.
