Planning staff to administratively approve 8-unit private parking garage on South Adobe; commission approves minutes

City of Twentynine Palms planning staff told the commission at the meeting that it intends to approve an administrative use permit for an eight-unit private parking garage on South Adobe unless a commissioner requests the matter be heard at a public hearing. The planning commission approved its consent calendar minutes and then moved into a study session that will not be recorded.

The community development staff member who presented the update described the project as a private parking garage in a commercial zone on South Adobe and said the structure is “a 8 unit, private parking garage” and “about 4,000 and something square feet.” The staff member said the permit is handled administratively under current practice and will proceed to their decision unless a commissioner objects and asks for a public hearing, which could be scheduled for the commission’s next regular meeting.

During the consent calendar, an unidentified commissioner moved to accept the meeting minutes as written and another seconded. The roll-call procedure recorded Commissioner Walker, Vice Chair Garcia and Chair Keir each responding “Aye,” and the clerk announced the consent calendar approved.

The meeting notice and access information were also reiterated: proceedings are available on demand on the City of Twentynine Palms website (www.palms.org) and can be livestreamed via the meeting agendas link. The commission then proceeded into a nonrecorded study session. No public comments were offered during the open public comment period.

Next steps: unless a commissioner asks for a public hearing on the administrative use permit, staff indicated it will finalize the administrative approval; no formal vote on the permit was taken during the recorded portion of the meeting.
