Goldsboro council honors two community leaders and renames recreation facility

Goldsboro — The Goldsboro City Council on Dec. 1 adopted two resolutions recognizing community leaders and approved renaming a city recreation facility.
Mayor read a resolution honoring George Wayne Aycock, a longtime Wayne County commissioner and community leader. The resolution — adopted unanimously — lists Aycock’s public service roles and notes his death on Nov. 18, 2025.
Council also adopted a resolution honoring Elder Aiden (Adene) Lewis George, noting her decades of ministry, leadership and founding in 1982 of the Holy Ghost Drawing Center Community Crisis Center. A family representative thanked the council and said the organization would continue the work she commissioned. "We still will be doing what she had commissioned and called us to do," a family representative said.
The council approved a resolution to rename the facility formerly known as the Edgewood location to Peachtree Street Recreation Center (address 1601 Peachtree Street) to reduce confusion with area schools and to facilitate reservations and marketing. The Recreation Advisory Commission had recommended the name.
What happens next: The new facility name will be used for reservations, marketing and internal systems; staff will update signage and records as needed.
