City staff said the project had been budgeted earlier at $95,000 but that the project was delayed and prices have since increased. Parks Director Jessica Gilmore explained budgets are estimated a year in advance and that bids returned higher than the earlier estimate, prompting staff to recommend covering the $81,729 difference from capital project sales tax (Type 3) funds.
Council approved awarding the contract and the supplemental appropriation by voice vote. One council member asked whether the city solicited more than one bid; staff replied that the work required sealed bids given the dollar amount and that the city received a single bid.
Why it matters: The action funds replacement of aging park infrastructure and authorizes a public works contract above the prior estimate.
