The Aiken City Council on Nov. 24 certified the results of the Nov. 5 general election and administered the oath of office to four newly elected council members.
KT Ruffin, speaking for the Aiken Municipal Election Commission, told the council the city held a general election on Nov. 5, 2025 and that "there were 2,728 ballots cast," providing district vote totals and recommending certification. The commission "certify the election of Lehi B. Price to District 2, Peter Messina to District 4, Braylon D. Waldo to District 5 and Barbara Morgan to District 6," Ruffin said.
Council accepted the certification by voice vote. The council then conducted a swearing-in ceremony. Each new council member repeated the oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of this state and of the United States," administered by the official overseeing the oath.
After the swearing-in, the council considered nominations for mayor pro tem. Councilwoman Kaye Bridal was nominated and, with no discussion, approved by voice vote as mayor pro tem.
The certification, oath and leadership appointment were procedural actions required for the newly elected council to assume duties. The meeting record shows the council approved those items unanimously by voice vote; a roll-call tally was not included in the transcript.
What happens next: Newly sworn members will begin their four-year terms and participate in council business; Bridal will serve as acting mayor when the mayor is unavailable.
