Clear Creek ISD expands career pathways with P‑TECH cohort and new community college partnerships

Staff said 102 students applied for the first P‑TECH cohort; many applicants chose early college instead and a lottery was used to place roughly 25–30 P‑TECH students in the inaugural group. Presenters described work‑based learning experiences with HCA Healthcare and Clear Lake Hospital and said P‑TECH students will take year‑one courses such as Principles of Health Science and later prepare for industry certification.
On dual credit, Christina Ford and Dr. Sharon Lopez presented crosswalks created with San Jac and COM to expand access to process technology, welding, maritime, AC technology, cosmetology, petrochemical process technology and culinary arts. San Jac programs in some CTE areas do not require TSI readiness, which staff said will facilitate earlier access for interested students. The district said it will coordinate scheduling, recruitment and registration with community college partners and embed information in dual‑credit nights and course fairs.
Trustees asked whether P‑TECH has capacity for expansion; staff said the program has room to grow but leaders recommended starting cohorts of 25–30 to establish program supports before scaling.
What's next: application windows and information nights for a second P‑TECH cohort are scheduled Jan. 6–Feb. 13; the district will continue collaborating with San Jac and COM to finalize scheduling and seat availability.
