La Grange Park board unanimously authorizes four STP grant applications for roadway work

The Village of La Grange Park voted unanimously Dec. 13 to authorize submission of four Surface Transportation Program (STP) grant applications to seek federal funding for multiple roadway resurfacing and safety projects.
Trustee Sheehan introduced the resolutions, which seek STP funding for: LaGrange Road (Richmond to Oak), Harding Avenue (Brainerd to LaGrange Road), Harding Avenue (LaGrange Road to Kevin Avenue), and Kevin Avenue (31st to 26th), as well as Kemmett Avenue (31st to 26th) in separate motions. Staff said the STP program, administered regionally through the West Central Council of Mayors and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning and through IDOT, can cover up to 80% of eligible construction costs; one example estimate given for phases 2 and 3 of a LaGrange Road safety project was approximately $2.8 million with a village local match of roughly $560,000.
Trustees treated the items as consent agenda resolutions, moved, seconded and carried them unanimously. Trustee Sheehan said planning must begin well ahead of construction deadlines and praised staff for recent success securing grants.
Because these are grant-application approvals, final funding depends on successful award of STP funds and satisfaction of local-match commitments; adoption of each resolution authorizes the village engineer to prepare and submit required application materials.
