MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Monroe County commissioners held a public listening session in Bean Blossom Township on Nov. 1 to gather resident feedback about a proposal to include the township in the Monroe County Fire Protection District.
Commissioner Julie Thomas opened the meeting and said the session’s purpose was to hear from residents, noting Fire Protection District Chief Dustin Dillard and County Attorney Jeff Cockrell were at the table to answer questions. "We're really here today not to talk at you, but to hear from you," Thomas said.
Chief Dustin Dillard presented updated packets and a recent financial study; he cautioned that figures remain uncertain because of recent state changes, including SEA 1, and described the handouts as conservative estimates. "I don't think anyone can really calculate any of this right now because of SEA 1 and changes that may happen in January," Dillard said.
