Brigham City audit: auditors issue clean opinion, no federal compliance findings

Auditors told the Brigham City Council they issued an unmodified (clean) opinion on the city’s basic financial statements and found no reportable internal-control weaknesses related to financial reporting.
Marcus Arbuckle, the contracted auditor, said the audit included testing of internal controls tied to cash receipts, disbursements, payroll and the financial-close process. He reported that the city complied with single-audit requirements for federal funds; auditors reviewed major federal programs including a $2,000,000 Department of Agriculture loan passed through to a city business, a $2,000,000 Department of Treasury item, and about $8,000,000 associated with Department of Homeland Security activity. The auditor reported no findings on how those federal funds were handled.
Arbuckle said there were no significant difficulties performing the audit and no uncorrected misstatements. City staff confirmed the full audit will be published on the State Auditor’s website and linked from the city website.
What’s next: the audit will be posted as required and staff will complete a few wrap-up items before the final codified version is uploaded.
