District 207 board affirms commitment to safe educational environment, limits cooperation with immigration enforcement

The Maine Township HSD 207 Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution affirming its commitment to a safe, inclusive educational environment for all students and families.
The resolution, read in open session by Sheila, states that District 207 "will not enter into any agreement with law enforcement agencies to facilitate the enforcement of immigration law nor will we share any protected student information." It also says the district will not allow access to district property or buildings "for any purpose without a warrant."
Board members and administrators discussed community concerns and operational steps to ensure families are aware of supports. Trustees cited increased need for food assistance and described partnerships with local food pantries, a school-based health center and the district foundation. One trustee asked for "actionable items" that community members could use to help families in need; administrators said they could coordinate communications and lists of donor and volunteer opportunities with principals and the foundation.
Policy committee members noted an upcoming requirement to formalize district policy on agency and law-enforcement requests; a specific reporting form for any such contact must be ready by Jan. 1, 2026, they said. Administrators and staff described in‑school supports and individualized outreach by family‑services teams to reach families who may not be comfortable accessing public donations or services directly.
Trustees agreed the resolution was intended to reassure families and staff and to codify practices the district said it already follows; the board took roll-call votes and recorded affirmative responses.
