HAMPDEN, Mass. ' The Select Board voted Dec. 8 to promote Brendan Kennedy to a lieutenant position in the town's fire department, filling a Monday-through-Friday vacancy.
Fire Department leadership told the board three internal candidates and one external candidate were interviewed and recommended Kennedy as the top candidate. "Brendan Kennedy here, rose to the top as number 1," the chief said during the presentation of the hiring recommendation.
Board members said the promotion is within the current budget and that an internal posting will follow to fill Kennedy's prior position. The board approved the appointment by voice vote.
The board did not indicate a change in department staffing levels or budget for the coming year beyond the internal vacancy the promotion will create.
