During the reorganization, a nomination to select Albert Mendez as mayor was moved and seconded. The council conducted a roll-call vote and approved the nomination unanimously. The council then nominated and unanimously approved John Garnica as mayor pro tem for 2026. The meeting record shows a roll-call that recorded affirmative votes from all five council members.
Short remarks and certificates of recognition followed: representatives of U.S. Rep. Julia Brownlee and Assemblymember Steve Bennett presented certificates honoring outgoing Mayor Christina Villasenor and the newly seated mayor. Council members posed for photographs and rearranged the dais prior to continuing the agenda.
