Board appoints two student representatives for 2026, extends mentor term

The superintendent reported the board received eight applications for student school board representative and reviewed them at the Nov. 18 work session. On Nov. 25 the board voted to appoint Cadence Hansen and Christian Penavelas to serve as student representatives from January 2026 through December 2026, and to extend Atenan Anwar's term as a student representative/mentor through June 2026 because she is graduating.
Board members commented they were pleased with the quality and number of applicants and discussed ways to strengthen student voice going forward. The board conducted a voice vote; no member opposed and the appointments were confirmed.
The appointments will be reflected in board rosters and related communications about student engagement.
