Superintendent Doctor Saltzman used the Dec. 9 meeting to update the board on academic assessments and upcoming community outreach about the district's proposed 2026 construction bond and educational levy. Saltzman described midyear iReady checks and state‑required early literacy screenings and noted upcoming testing windows for English learners.
Saltzman said the district will host "Let's Connect" events after winter break to share details about proposed projects and costs tied to the 2026 bond and levy; he listed dates and locations for high‑school‑level meetings. He emphasized that those sessions would explain how measures would support students and schools.
Saltzman also announced a $12,000 grant from the Seattle Seahawks to support start‑up costs — including uniforms and equipment — for the district's newly launched girls flag football program. "Cascade, Everett, and Jackson High Schools all participated" in a recent jamboree, he said, and more than 180 student athletes are now participating in the program.
He noted a legacy gift from alumna Marcille White LaSalle to student leadership programs (transcript: "more than $11,000") and congratulated the board on receiving a 'Board of Distinction' honor from the Washington State Directors Association.
Saltzman closed by reminding families of winter break and previewing district outreach events in January for the bond and levy.
Next steps: Community outreach events in January to provide specifics on proposed projects and costs; details to be posted by district staff.
