The Cedar Springs Public Schools Board of Education on Monday adopted the district’s annual summer tax resolution and approved a contingency that allows the district to spend up to $92,022 on a previously awarded mechanicals contract.
Board members voted to maintain the district’s longstanding practice of levying 100% of operating millage in the summer, a decision the finance presenter said helps the district manage cash flow during months when state aid is not received and avoid short‑term borrowing. The board carried the resolution by roll call vote.
Later in the meeting the board approved a 10% contingency for the Northwest Tenth mechanicals project. The district had awarded a base bid of $83,656 to the lowest qualified bidder; staff asked the board to approve a $8,366 contingency to cover minor scope changes and ensure work stays within the project’s grant funding envelope. Finance staff said the total grant award for the project is $1,186,980, and the contingency would keep the project within available funds.
The board recorded the motions and voted to carry both items. No public comments were registered on either action.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12, when additional bond and capital project items are expected to return for further action.
