Cary zoning panel recommends final plat for District 26 transportation center at Oaks Road

The Village of Cary Board of Zoning, Planning and Appeals on Dec. 11 voted to recommend approval of a final plat that would create three lots for Cary Consolidated School District 26’s new transportation center and two outlots for future commercial or residential development along Oaks Road. Brian Simmons, the village’s director of community development, told the board staff reviewed the plat against the village’s Unified Development Ordinance and recommended approval.
The board heard that the plat would formalize the relocation of the district’s transportation center from the Maplewood property to the Oaks Road site and create two outlots for future development. “Staff is recommending approval of the same,” Simmons said during his presentation. Commissioners asked one technical question about the plat title to confirm that the document memorializes the Cary Bus Depot name and not the earlier PUD label; Simmons confirmed the plat title reflects the bus depot name and that the prior PUD approvals remain in effect.
Petitioner Mr. Shepherd had no additional comments, and the chair opened and closed the public comment period with no speakers in attendance. The chair moved to recommend Village Board approval; the motion carried on a roll call recommendation with affirmative responses recorded for Commissioners Trandell, Casteter, Gretchener, Graziano and Corey, giving the petitioner a positive recommendation to the Village Board.
The board also addressed a recent round of public feedback about previously drafted minutes; Simmons said staff had collected written comments and recommended the minutes remain as drafted unless the board directed edits. Chair and staff closed the item with holiday wishes for the petitioner and commissioners.
