Vancouver School District previews policy to support students with adrenal insufficiency after new state law

The draft outlines training requirements for parent-designated adults who may need to support students during emergencies and requires development of an individual student health plan for any student who might require emergency care due to adrenal insufficiency.
Richmond described the condition as rare and noted the policy purpose is to have procedures in place should the need arise. An unidentified speaker added, “I believe that it's formally known as Addison's disease,” a medical name referenced during discussion.
Board members did not take action on the policy at this meeting; Richmond presented it as a first reading and said additional steps will follow as the district works through policy alignment with state guidance.
