Resident urges ISO review and cautions against siting central fire station in flood plain

Mora also warned against siting a new central fire station in a flood plain, saying that building fill to raise a finished floor one foot above the 100-year floodplain can shift floodwaters onto other properties. He cited examples of local projects where fill altered flood flows and asked the council to coordinate with the Texas Department of Transportation’s hydraulics division on planned bridge elevations on East Main.
Mora framed his comments as constructive and said he had raised the issue at earlier meetings dating to July 19, 2022. No formal action or staff commitment to consult ISO was recorded at the meeting; the comment served as a request that staff consider outside review and floodplain coordination in ongoing planning for the proposed stations.
Next steps: Council or staff may place an ISO consultation and floodplain coordination discussion on a future agenda as the fire-station project advances.
