The Palm Coast City Council voted unanimously to increase animal licensing and related fees after staff presented a benchmarking analysis across seven jurisdictions.
Staff said the licensing fee for intact animals will rise from $10 to $35 and spayed/neutered animals from $5 to $25; duplicate tag fees and surrender/transport fees will also increase and the dangerous-dog fee will go from $150 to $300. The analysis compared Marion, Putnam, Pinellas, St. Johns, St. Augustine, Volusia and Jacksonville to establish a reasonable increase; staff noted many local fees had not been updated since 2008.
Public commenters and a resident who works with local animal services supported the increases and urged better communication about what the fees fund, including humane society partnerships and pet-return programs. Council approved the resolution unanimously.
