Palm Coast advances Track 17 brownfield designation to seek state Job Growth funds

The City Council unanimously approved a first hearing to designate Track 17 as a brownfield area and label it the "Palm Coast Strategic Employment Zone." The designation will allow the city to apply to the Florida Department of Commerce for assistance under the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund.
John Zolba, community development director, told council the designation helps create an identity for Track 17 and makes the site eligible for infrastructure grants and a $2,500 one-time employer bonus for each full-time hire at the site if the grant is awarded. He said qualifying requirements under state statute had been met and that the second hearing is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Councilmembers expressed support for the economic development strategy and asked staff to continue outreach to landowners and developers to promote the site’s prospects. The first hearing passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
