Middleton committee hears options for community campus; staff reiterates net‑zero goal

She said consultants have completed a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) evaluation for the existing‑building option to generate rough cost ranges for renovation versus electrified equipment options including heat pumps and geothermal.
Kelly reminded the committee that the Common Council has already approved sustainability goals for the project, including a net‑zero building objective, and that the current work is at a massing and scope level rather than detailed design. Committee members asked whether the city has adequately assessed the facility size and stressed the importance of leadership on energy reductions if the city expects the community to adopt similar goals.
Kelly said work on the project re‑started within the past year, consultants will present the MEP findings to the citizen committee at an upcoming meeting, and staff will continue to coordinate with committees and incorporate feedback before returning recommendations to the Common Council.
