Middleton sustainability committee re-elects chair, hears public comments on EVs and heat pumps

At the July 15 meeting, committee members re-elected Christy to continue as chair and elected Laura as vice chair by voice votes; no roll-call tallies were recorded.
During public comment, Robert Owen (1311 Middleton Street) urged the city to install a 120-volt plug at Terrace Avenue for immediate EV charging needs rather than waiting for a Level 2 charger, recommended that tourism staff use EVs rather than hybrids, and suggested the police consider an EV pursuit-rated vehicle (Chevy Blazer EV PPV) and that EMS plan for electric ambulances and heat-pump heating systems. Kevin Spitler and other members urged the committee to use the Sustainable Purchasing Policy implementation plan in the upcoming budget cycle and to apply life-cycle cost tools when evaluating purchases.
The committee thanked the public commenters and signaled interest in several of the suggestions, but staff noted budget, grant constraints and procurement timelines will shape which items are feasible in the near term.
