La Porte accepts assistant chief27s resignation; Captain Zach Caney selected as assistant chief effective Jan. 2

The La Porte Board of Public Works and Safety accepted Assistant Chief Kelly Burke27s resignation from the assistant chief role on Dec. 16; Burke will remain with the department as a battalion chief. Chief Snyder thanked Burke for leadership during recent incidents and credited him with advancing department training and technology.
Chief Snyder said the mayor conducted an internal interview process and selected Captain Zach Caney to take over the assistant chief duties, effective Jan. 2. Chief Snyder described Caney as a captain, member of the dive team, past training chief and a nationally certified arson investigator. Caney addressed the board and thanked the chief and interview committee: "I look forward to it," he said, and introduced family members present.
The resignation was accepted by voice vote; the mayor indicated the formal swearing-in will occur at the Board of Works meeting in January. No further personnel action (such as a council confirmation or vote) was recorded at this session.
