Uintah County commissioners approved a countywide contract with SML Strategic LLC to provide services supporting the county attorney's office, pretrial services, the criminal justice center and the sheriff's office.
Attorney Anderson said the contract funds are already in the budget and come from a state grant. The contract covers a 12-month period beginning Jan. 1 and ending Dec. 31 for fiscal year 2026–27. The transcript did not provide a clear, single-dollar total for the contract in a format suitable for publication; the meeting record stated the funding comes from the state grant and that all monies are included in the county budget.
Jamie Thomas, county attorney, added that SML Strategic also performs services for multiple county offices and that the county previously discussed converting a grant-funded position to a full-time employee. "The grant administrator did wish to convey his disappointment and his surprise that we haven't made an employee," Thomas said, but he noted the contract is consistent with what was submitted in the grant budget and asked the commission to approve it. The commission approved the contract by voice vote.
