Houston County Commission reappoints members, approves budget amendments and a personnel appointment

The commission approved three budget amendments by voice vote: $250 for Tri River Waterway Development membership, $6,600 for Americans with Disabilities Act website compliance (described by the chair as a mandatory federal compliance expense), and $46,438 to purchase AI software and authorize the chairman to negotiate and execute documents. The chair said the AI software "should free up staff time quite a bit."
On personnel, the commission moved to fill the field chief administrative officer vacancy created by the retirement of Peter Covert and appointed Stacy to the position; Stacy thanked the commission and staff for the opportunity. The chair said the appointment would take effect at 12 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Acting staff reports included an update on Houston County Policy No. 43 (identity theft prevention/red flag policy), which the acting chief administrative officer said detected no fraudulent activity during the most recent fiscal year, and an update from the county engineer that East Oak Road is expected to reopen by Wednesday before the holidays. The meeting adjourned and a subsequent correction recognized Lindsay Andrews, assistant principal at Cottonwood Elementary School, after she had been inadvertently omitted from earlier recognitions.
