Staff said the city has already invested about $15 million in site work, utilities and initial construction. Option A would deliver eight completed fields plus two vertical concession/restroom structures, 16 batting cages, 67 shade structures and advanced wayfinding and is estimated to require about $21,200,000 more to finish (includes a 5% contingency). Option B would preserve the eight fields while reducing the concrete footprint, consolidating batting cages, trimming shade structures and using fewer decorative elements; Option B's estimated additional cost is $15,100,000, and an optional second building (Building B) could be included as an alternate for roughly $650,000.
Staff said both options will go into the bid packet with ad alternates so the council can select a preferred scope when competitive bids return. Council members asked for the detailed line-item breakdown (staff said those documents exist and will be provided) and discussed priorities including ADA compliance, long-term maintenance and funding sources. No final council vote was taken on the Sportplex completion at this meeting; staff said the matter will return next week with more details and that bids will determine final pricing.
