Wooster receives two Auditor of State awards; Drew Paul sworn in to council

Tina Ludwig, regional liaison for the Ohio Auditor of State, presented two awards to city officials at the Wooster City Council meeting on Dec. 1, recognizing the City of Wooster with the Auditor of State Award with Distinction and Wooster Growth Corporation with an Auditor of State Award for clean financial audits.
Ludwig said the award-with-distinction is given to a small group of entities that meet a long checklist of requirements, including timely GAAP-based filings, a comprehensive annual financial report, and audit reports without findings for recovery, material weaknesses, or other major citations. “This is a great achievement,” Ludwig said, noting only about 4% of the auditor’s office clients qualify for the distinction and about 10% qualify for the standard award.
Council and administration singled out Finance Director Andre Doria for leadership and accurate, timely reporting. John Ansell, identified in the meeting as president of Wooster Growth Corporation, thanked city finance staff for their cooperation and said the awards reflect the work of many people across the organization.
Also during the meeting, the council filled the at-large council seat vacated by Ms. Knappek. Councilor Abernathy nominated Drew Paul; with no other nominations, the council closed nominations and approved Paul by roll-call vote. Paul recited the oath of office and was sworn in as an at-large council representative.
The council congratulated award recipients and welcomed the new councilor before moving on to the rest of the agenda. The administration said a public demonstration of a new Economic Explorer tool produced with Ohio State University will be scheduled after the new year.
