Mount Holly Fire Department earns top ISO Class 1 rating, officials say

The Mount Holly Fire Department received an ISO Class 1 rating in a presentation to the City Council on Dec. 8, an announcement city leaders described as a major accomplishment for the department and the community.
A representative from the state fire marshal's office, introduced by the mayor, explained the ISO rating consists of three components: fire department operations (50% of the score), utility/water supply (40%) and communications (10%). The presenter said Mount Holly achieved a 92.5-point score, describing the rating as the highest available and noting that it reflects many years of dedication from firefighters, utility partners and the community.
Chief Ryan Baker accepted a certificate on behalf of the department; council members invited firefighters to join for recognition. The presenter emphasized that reaching and maintaining a Class 1 rating requires ongoing attention to staffing, equipment, water infrastructure and communication systems.
Mayor and council congratulated the fire department for the rating and noted the rating’s potential indirect benefit for the community. No formal action was needed; the item was a ceremonial recognition and informational presentation.
