Lynchburg school board votes to convert March 2 to full instructional day to protect seat hours

A board member moved the calendar change and another seconded; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from the members present and the motion passed. During discussion board members asked staff to watch for long stretches without breaks and to consider the instructional impact, and one member recommended preserving important school events tied to calendar dates. The superintendent said principals and instructional leaders would review and provide feedback on the remote-learning plan that would support any phase-2 conversions.
The board’s action seeks to ensure the division meets state minimums for high-school instructional seat hours and gives administration limited latitude to make additional adjustments if future weather requires it.
