Council considered a request from the Sydney Creative Art District to explore alternative administration and heard a staff recommendation to retain the designation under the city. Staff recounted the district’s 2022 memorandum of understanding, the city’s role in initial certification and the $100,000 grant used to obtain the Nebraska Arts Council designation.
Brandy Stone, lead of the Creative Art District, had requested additional time to identify a new administrative partner; staff said the two‑week extension had lapsed and that the Nebraska Arts Council would need to be consulted about grant administration if responsibilities shifted. The city’s recommendation was to keep the district under municipal administration and to task staff with drafting a resolution to formalize committee roles, membership and compliance with the Open Meetings Act.
Council moved and approved a motion to retain the creative district under city administration and to direct staff to draft a resolution that would structure the committee and clarify fiscal responsibilities.
