FLVS spotlights student success, expands Foundation programs and honors military‑connected students

She said the Foundation's Lockheed internship program received approval to expand to Orlando for 2026, adding Lockheed facilities in Clearwater and Orlando to existing placements.
CEO Doctor Algace and trustees highlighted student accomplishments. Algace announced that Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools earned a Purple Star School of Distinction for supporting military‑connected students; he said the district currently enrolls 174 military families full time, including 54 students who reside out of state. Algace also recognized Riley Erisman, an 11th‑grade FLVS flex student, for winning eight medals and becoming the most decorated swimmer at the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Championships.
The meeting included a video segment and an extended profile of teacher David Fellows and his ESE‑centered virtual classroom pilot. The video presenter described the pilot as a "hyper personalized environment" for students with verified IEPs and 504 plans; the report stated that completion, retention and exam scores in the pilot class were in some cases about 30% higher than comparable students not enrolled in the pilot. Trustees noted that the pilot will expand to four teachers in the 2025‑26 school year.
Brunner previewed upcoming Foundation activities including STEM camps, art days at FLVS headquarters and a student art showcase tied to community events; trustees applauded student winners and outreach efforts. Trustees and leaders closed the item with congratulations and holiday well‑wishes.
