The San Marino Unified School District Board of Education elected its officers for the 2025–26 year and ratified its committee assignments during its Dec. 9 regular meeting.
Board members selected Mrs. Kia as president, Shelley Ryan as vice president and Joanna Lam as clerk in nominations that were seconded and carried by unanimous roll call. The board then confirmed representatives to standing committees — including city liaison, health benefits, LAC and legislative representation — and added an AI Task Force and a Bond Board Subcommittee to the roster.
Board members discussed roles and continuity as they assigned representatives. The outgoing president thanked staff, PTA volunteers and the community for support over the past year and presented a certificate of appreciation to a student who led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The board also addressed monthly compensation for trustees following changes in state law. Citing recent statutory updates to the Education Code that allow districts meeting specified enrollment thresholds to set a maximum of $1,200 per month effective Jan. 1, 2026, trustees moved to waive their compensation for the coming period and approved the waiver unanimously.
The meeting included routine procedural votes — approval of the meeting agenda and prior meeting minutes — and certification of signatures to memorialize the new officer titles. All motions related to officer elections, committee appointments and procedural items were approved by roll call.
