At the committee meeting on Dec. 2, the moderator introduced policy 8 29 and said the draft included delegation-of-responsibility language the committee wanted clarified. Several members asked for edits to wording in items 4 and 6 to read, for example, 'individual differences and cultural uniqueness' rather than earlier phrasing. One board member also pressed for an administrative regulation (AR) to carry the deeper implementation details that the policy text should not require.
A community member, Ashwini, addressed the committee during public comment and said they had met with Dr. Johnston and participated in state-level 'EHRC' training. Ashwini offered to share documentation and links from that training to inform the district's AR and training plans, saying, "I met up with, doctor Johnston about a few months ago... they are going to send us some documentation and links, and I just want to make sure that I can share that with you guys as we have it." The committee agreed such materials could inform the AR-level guidance.
Committee members noted the student advisory council is already discussing relevancy of instructional materials and suggested the AR could specify how student and community input would inform implementation. One board member said an AR drafted by the superintendent's office would be an appropriate place to include more detailed procedures and training resources.
The moderator told the committee the policy text would be on the full board agenda in December but that the supporting AR would not be ready by then; staff aim to present the AR in January. One member noted free equity and community-engagement trainings available through the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) that district members could take to inform implementation.
Next steps: the committee forwarded policy 8 29 to the full board for a December vote; the AR and related training materials will be developed and presented separately, likely in January.
