Princeton council approves zoning amendment, tax levy and routine items; tables solar rules

The Princeton City Council approved several ordinions and routine municipal actions at its year-end meeting.
On a second and final reading the council passed ordinance O-25-16, an amendment to the City of Princeton Land Development Code to allow, by special use, certain indoor and outdoor spectator sports and recreation in an agricultural zoning district. The motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Council also approved ordinance O-25-018 (the tax levy for the fiscal year commencing May 2026 and ending April 2027) on its second and final reading; the vote was unanimous.
The council voted to table ordinance O-25-17, which would have established regulations for ground-mounted solar arrays in residential districts. Plan commission feedback and a desire for broader review prompted the motion to table the measure indefinitely; the tabling motion passed unanimously.
Other formal actions recorded during the meeting included approval of minutes from 12/01/2025, the payment of invoices totaling $1,548,081.48 as presented by the Department of Accounts and Finances, and approval of a variance recommendation for Eric and Richard Yolandi related to an existing deck built without a permit. The Planning & Zoning Commission had recommended a conditional resolution to settle the matter without litigation.
Council reappointed Michael Lee to the Historic Preservation Commission for a three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2028. Several other personnel and benefits updates (see separate article) were approved as motions during the meeting.
