The Mayville Common Council opened a public hearing Dec. 9 on a preliminary resolution declaring the city’s intent to levy special assessments for the Muzzy and Allen Street reconstruction project. Staff explained the assessments would cover curb and gutter, driveway approaches and sidewalks where applicable and are authorized under municipal code and state statute.
Staff and consultants told the council the preliminary resolution is a statutory step that begins the assessment process; a later resolution and public hearing will set final assessment amounts when the project is complete in 2026. The presenters said the city’s ordinance includes useful‑life crediting (for example, sidewalk useful life typically 10 years, curb and gutter 30 years) so property owners who recently replaced features can receive credits.
Council members asked whether sewer and water work was being coordinated with the street reconstruction to avoid needing to reopen recently completed work. Staff said mains and laterals in the right of way will be fully replaced on such projects and that coordination is part of project planning.
No formal objections were recorded in the hearing portion of the transcript. Council proceeded to adopt the preliminary resolution, with members voting in favor.
