County HR reports on HB 718 impact and staffing at tax assessor's office

Valeria Fernandez of El Paso County Human Resources updated the Commissioners Court on Dec. 1 about implementation of HB 718 and staffing at the tax assessor-collector's office. Fernandez said the tax office currently has five vacancies; two of those positions are expected to be filled in January, and three employees are scheduled for promotion on Dec. 12, which will create additional entry-level openings. The office has posted for entry-level clerk positions and completed recruitment steps for an accounting specialist whose posting closed the night before the meeting.
Fernandez said HR will continue to work with the tax office to expedite recruitment and that the tax office plans to operate two Saturday service sessions during the first two weeks of December to address service needs. She told the court the department did not have a current count of backlog transactions available that morning but will continue monitoring staffing, training and process adjustments and report back to Commissioners Court.
No formal action was taken on item 6A during the meeting; the court recorded the update and moved on to the next agenda item.
