Plainview ISD honors teachers, students and community donors; FFA, Kindness Club and cross-country teams present

At its December meeting the Plainview ISD Board of Trustees took time for presentations that highlighted student achievement and community support.
Recognitions: The board presented a Teacher Bulldog Award to Coach Gill for classroom and coaching work praised by students and administrators, and named Gary Tipton as the administrator Bulldog Award winner for his rapid contribution as an assistant principal.
Family Engagement and donors: Family engagement staff recognized community partners whose donations support seasonal campaigns. The board acknowledged Atmos Energy’s $3,000 contribution to a coat drive, Kiwanis Club of Plainview’s $500 donation (plus an additional $500 from Mark Warren), Amigos’ gift-card donations that supported 50 Thanksgiving boxes, and Shoe Sensation’s donation of socks. The district said Family Engagement operates entirely on donations and connects families in need with resources during holidays.
Student groups: FFA students described the organization’s ‘‘three-circle’’ model (classroom instruction, supervised agricultural experience and leadership development), dual-credit opportunities and certification pathways; presenters noted recent alumni who have earned scholarships and industry placements. FCCLA’s Kindness Club president Kara White described anti-bullying campaigns and outreach events that reached thousands online and inspired similar programs elsewhere.
Athletics: Cross-country coach Trini Perez and team captains recounted a season built on the motto ‘‘No excuses,’’ highlighted regional qualifiers Maribel Montelongo and Noah Askins, and described fundraising that brought visiting champion Thomas Vivas to the community.
Education Foundation: A brief Education Foundation report noted recent teacher grants (snack-shack and other classroom projects), emergency staff grants and $1,000 received from a Citibank award. Foundation leaders said additional grant rounds will open in spring.
Why it matters: The recognitions and presentations illustrated how volunteer donors, local clubs and school programs contribute to student opportunities in academics, career readiness and extracurricular activities across the district.
