The Winslow Township Board of Education approved an addendum on Dec. 10 to address additional repairs arising from a burst pipe at the middle school.
Administration explained that engineers and a mechanical consultant determined the damage was more extensive than initially visible and recommended replacing approximately 410–500 feet of legacy piping (PVC/CPVC) with new copper piping, re‑strapping and installing water‑hammer mitigation. District counsel and administrators said the insurance carrier is covering the lion's share of remediation but the pipe‑replacement work that caused the flood is not covered under the applicable policies; that uncovered portion will be paid from the district maintenance reserve.
The board discussed procurement steps: work was procured through co‑op vendors with existing cooperative bids, and the district contacted primary and secondary co‑op vendors to meet tight timeframes. Administration said vendor pricing arrived late and that the addendum was necessary because the work was required immediately to complete middle‑school repairs and return students to the building.
Board counsel and administration emphasized transparency: although some work will be paid by the insurance carrier, the business administrator (Miss Boyle) insisted the district review work before payments and route expenditures through the board for oversight.
The motion to approve the addendum and associated spending from maintenance reserve where insurance does not apply passed on roll call with all present voting yes.
