The Green Bay Finance Committee on Dec. 9 approved a $68,481.75 refund of 2022 property taxes to Georgia Pacific for property at 1919 South Broadway, a payment resulting from an assessment appeal adjudicated by the state.
Staff explained this refund follows multiyear appeals previously resolved for the same taxpayer; refunds for successful appeals are apportioned among overlapping taxing jurisdictions, including public schools, NWTC and Brown County. Committee members noted prior litigation and the county’s earlier decision not to support the city’s prior position in related matters.
The committee approved the refund by voice vote. No additional conditions were imposed at committee; staff explained the legal and administrative basis for issuing the refund and the standard distribution of amounts among taxing jurisdictions.
