Carol Davis, a property owner on Timesville Road, addressed the Alamance County Board of Commissioners during the public-comment period and urged the board to oppose a proposed landfill expected to be brought before the county in 2026.
Davis described the Clap Mill Road area as a once-rural stretch that has become a "quiet tranquility" and said a landfill would introduce heavy truck traffic, engine noise, diesel exhaust and dust, along with bright flood lighting at night. "Who wants to live next to a landfill? Who wants to buy a home next to a landfill?" she asked. She said the project would reduce quality of life and could depress property values for people who live nearby.
Davis also noted that four landfills already lie within roughly five miles of the proposed site and asked commissioners to consider the cumulative effects on affected neighborhoods. The speaker asked commissioners to oppose the landfill when it comes before the board in 2026.
Commissioner comments later in the meeting returned to planning and zoning philosophies for rural areas, with one commissioner noting persistent public reluctance to expand zoning in rural parts of the county but acknowledging there are residents on both sides of that policy debate.
