Board approves MOUs, grants and consent agenda items including Phil Hardin and Jackson Middle College funding

The board reviewed and approved a memorandum of agreement with DMN Behavioral and Counseling Group LLC to add DMN to the district's roster of mental-health providers for scholars. The administration also recommended renewal of a memorandum of understanding with educator consultant Beth Roach to support an International Baccalaureate primary years program at Obama Elementary.
Grant announcements and approvals included a $150,000 award from the Phil Hardin Foundation to support the district's community-school strategy, with the Community Foundation for Mississippi serving as fiscal agent; and a $300,000 Phil Hardin commitment to Jackson Middle College (JMC) described as $100,000 per year for three years to support tuition, technology and fees for JMC scholars. The Community Foundation waived its usual 7.5% administrative fee for the JMC grant, the presenter said.
Administration also presented an MOU with the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District to place Accelerate Mississippi career coaches in high schools (funding for salaries, benefits, travel and required materials) and an agreement with OneGoal to survey high-school students about advising and postsecondary planning (OneGoal provided the first year under philanthropy at no charge). The board moved and approved these items and then approved consent agenda items grouped under finance, general and personnel categories.
Action: Multiple MOUs, grants and consent-agenda approvals carried by voice vote with no recorded nays.
