Atascosa County court approves canvass of Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election

Atascosa County election officials presented vote totals for 16 state propositions and the county commissioners court approved the official canvass at its Nov. 17 meeting.

Kathy Seider of Elections read precinct results for State Propositions 1 through 16, giving "for" and "against" counts and total votes cast for each measure across the 20 precincts reported. After reading the totals, Seider said, "And that completes the canvass." She later stated, "Total ballots cast was 3,423."

Commissioner Gillespie moved to approve the canvass; Commissioner Bowen seconded the motion. The presiding officer called the vote and said, "Motion carries." The court did not record detailed yes/no tallies for each commissioner in the transcript, and the clerk provided the aggregate ballot total reported by Elections.

Why it matters: Canvassing formalizes local reporting of election results and is a prerequisite for certifying outcomes and for any county-level recordkeeping tied to the Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election. The court completed the canvass at the meeting and moved on to other business.

The court then closed the canvass portion of its agenda and proceeded to procurement items on the docket. The next regular meeting was scheduled for 9 a.m. on the court's next stated meeting date.
