The Aberdeen School District 06-1 board met Nov. 24 and approved several routine and policy items, including a Board of Equalization resolution, the second reading of a capital revenue measure, first readings of the 2026–27 and draft 2027–28 school calendars, deletion of a staff directory policy (GBJ) and the second reading of the district’s bullying policy (JFCE/JFCE‑R).
Board business opened with roll call and the agenda was approved by voice vote after a motion and recorded seconds. The board then approved the single consent-agenda item by voice vote.
On the Board of Equalization resolution, staff explained the authorization establishes the district’s representative structure for equalization work (three county members, one city member and one district member) to help ensure properties are assessed uniformly. The board moved and approved the resolution by voice vote.
Facilities and budget-related business included a second reading of capital revenue and an update on projects at Central High School. District staff said Element Consultants will prioritize the Central boiler replacement and that JCI will send a project team to evaluate whether a retrofit or temporary measures can be used while a longer-term solution is planned. The board discussed bleacher inspections and replacement options; staff said the west-side bleachers will be matched with aluminum seating and flooring, removing the current wooden flooring and seats and that ramps will be adjusted to meet ADA requirements. The second reading of capital revenue was approved by voice vote.
The board approved first readings of the 2026–27 calendar and a draft 2027–28 calendar. For 2026–27, administration said the district will return to a Tuesday start, proposes a March 15–19 weeklong spring break (with two staff development/flex days and three student days off), and noted snow days are typically added at the end of the year, so the final school day could move depending on weather. The 2027–28 draft was presented as similar but adjusted for leap year and a different Easter placement. Both calendars received first‑reading approval.
Administration also presented a faculty-driven recommendation to delete policy GBJ (the annual printed staff directory) based on staff feedback that printed directories are rarely used; the proposal would retain an internal staff compilation while significantly reducing printed copies. The board approved the first reading to delete GBJ.
On policy JFCE and JFCE‑R (the district bullying policy and regulation), board members recorded a motion and second and approved the second reading by voice vote; Camille earlier explained the policy’s provisions at the meeting.
All approvals were recorded by voice vote during the meeting; the transcript shows ayes but does not list individual roll-call tallies. The board adjourned by voice vote.
What happens next: Several items approved at first reading (the calendars and policy GBJ deletion) will return for subsequent board action as required by district procedure; the capital projects team visits and consultant work will continue according to schedules described by staff.
