The Alcohol Beverage Board of St. Mary's County on Dec. 11 conditionally approved Helen Mueller's application to purchase a Class B restaurant beer, wine and liquor license for Helen's Cafe & Catering at 24509 Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown.
Mueller told the board she has operated restaurants with liquor privileges before and plans to enforce a 100% ID-check policy at her new location. She said the venue would primarily be a restaurant, would not remain open past midnight and would use last call at 11 p.m.; she also described a seating capacity increase compared with her previous location.
The board's approval was conditioned on receipt of a trader's license, comptroller retail-sales clearance, UNO (use and occupancy), health department and fire marshal approvals; members voted to grant the conditional approval for 90 days to allow the applicant to secure outstanding items. The board welcomed the application and stressed the need for on-site procedures that keep alcohol sales compliant.
