The Oconee County Fire Commission voted to approve its 2026 meeting calendar and added a full-day workshop in January after discussing scheduling conflicts.
Jennifer Adams, the clerk to council, presented the proposed dates and commissioners noted that June 11 coincides with a Fire Rescue Conference. "Chief Smith said the June 11 meeting, that'll be the week of the fire rescue conference," a commissioner noted during the discussion. Commissioners agreed they could keep the June 11 date and cancel it if a quorum could not be achieved, or reschedule if needed.
A commissioner proposed a Saturday workshop in January to be held off-site (options included the Tri County building or the county library), with a suggested 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule. After discussion about availability, commissioners shifted the proposed date from Jan. 3 to Jan. 10 to avoid conflicts and then approved the calendar, including the Jan. 10 workshop.
Staff were directed to confirm room availability and finalize the location for the workshop. The calendar vote cleared the way for the commission to address operational issues, including district chief reports later on the agenda.
