Lawrence County commissioners used a regular session to approve several routine items on the consent and new-business calendars, passing multiple resolutions by unanimous roll call.
Contracts and procurement: The board approved Resolution 405 to contract with Gibson Thomas for as-needed structural-engineering services for county-owned properties. Amy McKinney, planning director, said the county advertised a request for qualifications and received a single submission from Gibson Thomas; she clarified that Taylor Engineering will remain the county’s general engineer for other matters. The motion carried on roll call with all commissioners voting "Yes."
Property tax settlement: Resolution 407 authorized a compromise settlement affecting parcel 21012200 at 331 Main Street in the borough of Wampum. Assessment Director Bruce Peterson said Walkman Community Revitalization purchased the three-story former grocery/cabinet-store to convert it for community use; under the agreement the change in use takes effect for tax year 2026.
Library appointment: The board appointed Dr. Douglas Lakowitch to the Lawrence County Federated Library System board to fill a vacancy from the Elwood City Public Library; his term runs through Dec. 31, 2028 (Resolution 409).
Budget actions: The board approved Resolution 410, recording $11,440 in unanticipated revenue for Project Lifesaver routed through the district attorney’s office, and Resolution 411, recording a $15,000 unanticipated receipt from the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Trust Fund Board and placing it in the commissioners’ allocation expense account. The board also approved a package of intradepartmental budget transfers for numerous county departments, which the chair read into the record and the board approved by consolidated motion.
Each item was presented by the appropriate department head or staff member in turn; the board approved all motions by roll-call votes in which each commissioner recorded 'Yes.' The meeting closed with routine announcements and the scheduling of the next meeting on Dec. 30 and public swearing-in ceremonies on Jan. 5, 2026.
